Introducing Nick Bagalay

meet nick bagalay

My name is Nick Bagalay. I recently joined Mindset working directly with Ethan, and focused on a large project migrating an acquisition from a legacy environment to SAP. From a professional standpoint, I have been an SAP (ABAP) Developer for over ten years, focused on several different areas, from HR/SD Developments to several custom enhancements. Recently I have been focused on bringing my last organization up to Gateway OData v4 using the code-based model. I am designing and implementing new services and entities to support the business. Outside of work, I have continued to advance myself beyond SAP, building web services in C# Web API and building React pages for personal use.

I have been married for over ten years to my wife, Sherri. We have two children, my daughter Alexis (4) and my son Caiden (1). I love spending as much time with them as possible. We enjoy camping and taking in as much Michigan summer as possible. I also own a Harley Road King and try to get out as much as possible. Michigan is such a beautiful state to travel to and enjoy the outdoors, and in the summer, that is where you’ll find me. I enjoy cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in winter and continuing to dab in new development languages.

Why I joined Mindset:

When I left college some years ago, I joined a large organization and worked on advancing myself through their hierarchy. Unless they are in tech services, their system architecture isn’t necessarily the latest and greatest when working through an organization. My heart and passion are in development, and with SAP well underway in S/4, it is an area I wanted to get more involved in, something I couldn’t do on my current trajectory. In addition, I wanted to be a part of a community of inclusive developers, a group that shares and celebrates ideas and provides their own experiences and advice. It truly is the only way we all grow. When Mindset reached out for an opportunity, I sensed this was a different company. No matter their title, the people I talked to were so warm and engaging. The interview process was more of a human experience than meeting quotas and critical points in a job description. During those conversations, I could tell Mindset was where I wanted to be.

Future Planning:

This question is always difficult because technology advances and changes rapidly in our field. I want to continue to build and strengthen my development skills and grow in the SAP S/4 RAP model arena. However, my focus isn’t just all SAP; I also want to build my front-end development skills. Right now, I am focusing my energy on learning React + Typescript with a larger goal of getting towards mobile development using React Native. I LOVE working with Webservices, so building out new services and entities is another area of deep interest. Webservices excite me because you can pass them to someone and let their imagination run with how they want to consume into their processes. Although it can be a nightmare if they don’t know how to consume them properly 😉. I could derail from here, but I’ll leave it at that.
