Evolution: Workflow Management, SAP iRPA, and SAP BPA

Working with SAP services, have you ever wondered what’s the deal with the new “SAP BPA”? How is it different from other automation services provided by SAP? And what about the migration of projects? Well, look no further! In this blog, we’ll discuss SAP Workflow, SAP iRPA, and SAP BPA, as these are some of the automation services provided by SAP and migration to BPA.

What is SAP Workflow Management?

SAP Workflow Management allows us to digitize workflows, manage decisions, gain end-to-end process visibility, and configure processes in a low-code approach. It enables users to build, run, and manage workflows. Additionally, it allows users to digitize and automate decision-making with the help of business rules. Further, it provides one view of the process and enables process excellence, transparency, and transformation. Users can configure the process flow without the involvement of IT to improve process efficiency.

What is SAP iRPA?

SAP RPA is a form of automation technology that uses software “bots” to automate mundane, repetitive tasks combining technologies like conversational AI and machine learning.

RPA bots interact with application user interfaces and operate based on specified rules. RPA requires no coding or complex software configurations, making it easy and cost-effective to implement and maintain. We can choose from over 100 standard bots from the SAP RPA store covering an extensive range of different industry sectors and lines of business. Additionally, these ready-to-use apps can be deployed directly or extended and modified for your specific needs, adding even more value to your business.

What is SAP BPA, and how did it come into the picture?

Recognizing the customers’ increasing demand for business process automation to drive efficiency and agility, SAP has announced the general availability of its latest unified, easy-to-use, no-code, and AI-powered offering: SAP Process Automation. The solution leverages the capabilities of SAP iRPA. SAP iRPA is the robotic process automation layer of SAP’s Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP) and SAP Workflow Management. SAP Workflow Management is a solution that digitizes and automates decision-making with business rules.

What are the advantages of SAP BPA?

Beyond Merging SAP iRPA and SAP Workflow Management, SAP Process Automation simplifies business process innovation for citizen developers or business users by:

  • Providing visual drag-and-drop tools and pre-built industry-specific content to build workflows and automate tasks
  • Offering a comprehensive library of over 340 pre-built process flows, business rules, and dashboards, among others, across applications such as SAP S/4HANA, SAP SuccessFactors, and SAP Ariba SDKs.
  • Allowing native integration with SAP applications as well as non-SAP applications to support the automation of complex workflows
  • Enabling process and automation management on their organization’s cloud of choice while interoperating with their existing infrastructure.
Now let’s see how the migration from SAP Workflow and SAP iRPA to SAP BPA works.

I hope this gives a better understanding of SAP BPA. Further, I hope it explains how it’s different from other automation services and the migration processes.
