So, you’ve just completed another successful SAP project and have left the client very happy with your work. Or you may be in a full-time position and starting to look for a new challenge. Now what? Hopefully, you have another project lined up after your end date. But what if you don’t have another opportunity waiting for you? The thought of finding another opportunity may seem like an uphill battle. Applying to a million jobs online and keeping up with every recruiter is painful. But it doesn’t have to be if you go about finding your next position the right way. Here are the top 5 ways to find your next contract or full-time SAP opportunity.
1. Look to your Network
I believe the old adage to be true, “it’s not what you know but who you know.” Your network is the most important resource in your job search and should be your first step in finding a new opportunity. Keeping in touch with every manager and old colleagues may seem like hard work but it’s worth it. You will be at the back of their mind if any position comes available if you are continually checking in with them. Also, continuing to make new contacts by attending SAP networking events, user groups and SAP conferences can expand your network. The bigger your network, the better.
2. Partner with an SAP Technology Partner/Staffing Firm
Partnering with a trusted SAP focused company like Mindset Consultant can influence the chances of landing your next SAP position. See my last blog on the Benefits of using an SAP Recruiter. Having a company marketing your skillset and looking for opportunities is beneficial especially when you are currently working and don’t have a lot of time. Also, these companies have access to jobs that are not available through traditional job searches. Overall, partnering with an SAP Technology Partner/Staffing Firm can help you shorten the gap between employment and take the work out of searching for a new job.
3.Utilize your LinkedIn
LinkedIn is quickly becoming an effective tool for finding SAP jobs and is the top social networking site. As an SAP Recruiter, I use LinkedIn every day to search for SAP candidates. A couple of ways you can effectively use LinkedIn to find a new job are applying to new jobs, announcing that you are open to new opportunities, and asking your connections for an introduction to the hiring manager. An important part of utilizing LinkedIn to find your next job is keeping your profile up to date. Check out Libby Kessler’s blog on LinkedIn Profile Tips & Tricks. The more updated your LinkedIn profile is, the better chance you have at being noticed and reached out to by companies and recruiters.
4.Attend your local ASUG
Attending your local ASUG is a great way to network and get plugged into your local SAP community. Not only will you get a chance to meet other local SAP professionals, but you will also have the opportunity to learn about new ideas and how companies are utilizing SAP. In addition, SAP Partners and solution providers like Mindset Consulting are there. Take a look at Beth Bushman’s blog on the Top 5 Reasons to Attend October’s ASUG Chapter Meeting. If you live in the Twin Cities area, drop by our booth in October and say hello. We would love to meet you and discuss how we can help you find your next SAP contract/full-time position. Hope to see you there!
5. Check the Job Boards
Checking job boards and applying is the last way to find an opportunity. Websites like LinkedIn, Indeed, Dice, CareerBuilder, and Monster are good places to look for SAP jobs online. Google Jobs is another website that is becoming popular. Many companies and recruiters use job boards to find the right candidate and bring in resumes for a position. When applying, it’s always a good idea to follow with someone you know who works at the company and ask them to forward your resume on to the hiring manager. Also, make sure your resume is up to date and include keywords from the job description.
