In the ever-evolving landscape of enterprise technology, SAP continues to redefine the boundaries of innovation with the latest release of SAP Extended Warehouse Management in SAP S/4HANA 2023. The latest iteration includes significant enhancements for production warehousing scenarios, further capabilities within the outbound shipping process within Advanced Shipping and Receiving as well as substantial usability, extensibility, and functional enhancements.
One of the most noteworthy enhancements is related to the Advanced Shipping and Receiving (ASR) integration to S/4HANA ERP. First deployed in SAP S/4HANA 2020 FPS1, Advanced Shipping and Receiving enables users to work independently in EWM and TM after the delivery is transferred, using the Freight Order (FO) across the process.

The second major enhancement in ASR is the new Fiori application, “Advanced Shipping & Receiving Cockpit.” With this new Fiori app, users can monitor multiple freight orders and loading/unloading points within the warehouse.
Further, another new capability SAP added to decentralized EWM is Defect Processing. As of EWM S/4HANA 2023, users can use Quality Management (QM) to manage defects found during the production process or within the warehouse.
Noteworthy enhancements include:
Production Staging Enhancements:
New capabilities enable integration between EWM and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) or Repetitive Manufacturing using Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) messages, whether EWM is embedded or decentralized. Additionally, the staging request created in MES is mapped to the warehouse request for the internal stock transfer type within EWM. This enables visibility and transparency in both EWM and MES.
Production Material Request (PMR) based staging:
Creating a warehouse task for a product to be staged to the PSA can be done by summing all the open production quantities from different production material requests.
KANBAN:
KANBAN is now replicated to S/4HANA EWM from S/4HANA ERP. The KANBAN process allows users to create warehouse tasks to move products directly from a warehouse bin to the production supply area (PSA)
Cancel GR after Putaway:
Users can now reverse a goods receipt of an HU prior to putaway by using the Warehouse Monitor App.
Ability to split delivery items of HU’s from an outbound delivery order (ODO) to a new ODO in the Warehouse monitor:
For ODO’s the split can be between delivery items or quantities of a specific delivery item. Further, at an HU level, you can split the HU or the remaining unpacked items in the delivery into a new ODO.
Radio Frequency (RF) Enhancements:
Within the std RF transaction, users can now pack different products from the inbound delivery into a mixed HU and works for batch or serial number managed products.
Mass Processing for Warehouse Product Masters:
Users now have the ability to maintain warehouse product master attributes using a mass maintenance function within the warehouse monitor.
